“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when
they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6
There is a disturbing trend that has been building for a number
of decades now. It has been reinforced
by the media; sitcoms, movies, the Internet, etc. It can be defined in four words: Kids rule,
parents’ drool. No longer is it
fashionable to set the standards your children should adopt and live by. Now society dictates that we allow them to
make their own decisions way before they are capable of doing so. This is not what God intended. Just as adults are to make themselves aware
of God’s standards for living once they become believers, so are Christian
parents to make their children aware of them as well.
While I realize there is a huge number of solid Christian
family units in the world today, there are still far too many who allow their
children to choose which way to go without giving them the resources needed to
make proper choices. The world is not
our friend. It is the playground of the
devil. He will use whatever means he
chooses to derail our efforts to serve the Lord and will stop at nothing to
diminish parents’ role in raising their own children. At least if they are given a solid foundation
from God’s word they have something to fall back on when they realize the folly
of going their own way.
Scripture
is very clear regarding going it alone as opposed to following God’s lead. Two times in Proverbs (14:12 & 16:25)
Solomon cautions that there is a way that
seems right to a man, but whose end is death.
Atheists, one of the devils many pawns, have made it known that they
will do whatever it takes to draw the children of believers away from the faith
into their humanistic world through school curriculum that seeks to erase God
from our conscientiousness. Take control of your children’s future by filling
them with God’s word from an early age so they do not soon depart from it. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
