“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is
noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever
you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into
practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians
4:8-9
“Right
thinking results in right living.”1 Paul offers
sound advice for the Philippian believers and for us today. Our minds are crowded with many thoughts
vying for our attention. If we allow our
minds to focus on those things described above, we will know God’s presence in
our lives.
We
simply cannot live as we please and expect God to bless and honor that. God has a plan for each of our lives. Some would rather make their own decisions
without what they may consider to be Holy interference. In the end things begin to unravel and they
realize they took the wrong path. God
knows us so well that He has the very hairs on our head numbered (Matthew
10:30, Luke 12:7). He knows our heart
and judges us based on its condition.
Spending
our time entertaining angry, vengeful, sexual or evil thoughts is highly
counter productive and will never take us where God seeks to lead us. Keeping a calm demeanor and allowing God to
work in you by His Holy Spirit will help you achieve that which He knows is
best for you. Use Christ as your
measuring stick. Seek to live your life
as He lived His.
The
catch phrase What Would Jesus Do?
(WWJD?) is a fair question to ask ourselves.
God’s children should resemble their Heavenly Father. We’re all a work
in progress. Submit to His leading and
the peace of God that passes all understanding will be with you (Philippians
