“I
keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may
give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”
Ephesians 1:17
As the Apostle Paul writes to the
church in Ephesus, he commends them for their great faith and love for
God. He prays that they be given a
spirit of wisdom and revelation. Along
with wisdom would come discernment. They
would be able to determine that which was from God. The more we know God the more we are able to
receive from Him and the more we receive from Him the greater understanding we
begin to have regarding just who He truly is and how things in His economy
work.
God’s economy can be defined as such: “An
orderly, functional arrangement of parts; an organized system”.1
His standard for living a Godly life falls within the parameters of His
arranged, organized system. It is found
in the Bible. O that all those who call
Him Savior would allow Him also to be their Lord. God wants to bless us so much more than we
could ever ask or think, yet we end up short changing ourselves by doing that
which is pleasing in our own sight rather than in God’s.
It is interesting to note that in Revelation 2:4
the Lord speaks of a problem He has with the church in Ephesus. It seems they
have forsaken the love they once had.
This tells me that we can stagnate and even digress in our relationship
with the Lord if we do not constantly work at cultivating it. I use the word cultivate because any relationship
is like a garden. You plant seeds,
water, weed, prune and care for that which you have sewn so that you can have
something beautiful as a result. It is
no different with our relationship with God.
He never changes, we often do.
The hope is that we will change in a positive way and not the
opposite.
Don’t let the fact that you have a strong
relationship with the Lord cause you to relax in your efforts. Any relationship requires constant, regular
attention to keep it healthy and strong.
It is no different with our association with God. Until next time, walk
with the King and be a blessing!
