“Do not love the world or
anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in
them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.” 1 John 2:15-16
I
start with a question: Why is love of the world contradictory to love of
God? The world is passing away, God is
alive and He gives life. The world rebels against God, who rules and reigns
over all creation. Rejecting belief in
anything doesn’t make that thing untrue.
The world will continue on its path towards oblivion, while the true
believers of the world will continue to have a Godly influence on its
inhabitants. God’s love is unconditional
and eternal. It’s meant for anyone who
chooses to accept it. Loving the world
gets you temporal treasures that fade and decay over time. Nothing will last forever this side of
heaven; however, our souls will. They
will either reside for all eternity in heaven with God or in the place created
for Lucifer and all the rebellious angels that fell from grace; namely hell
(Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14).
Anything that occupies your time, money and talents to the
exclusion of all else is unhealthy. Now
have that exclusion include your relationship with God and you’ve entered into
a whole new sphere, one that borders on rebellion. Satan is working overtime to draw whole
families into becoming busy with anything but love and service to the living
God. Participating in sports, for
instance, is a healthy experience that can help mold ones character and
self-discipline. Do that without given
any thought to God and you’ve got just another activity that feeds our unspoken
need for autonomy.
Christians
need to incorporate the Lord into everything they do. How else can we be a positive influence on
anyone? We don’t have to preach God’s
word wherever we go unless we feel a compulsion to do so. Living a life that shows people Christ speaks
far louder and more clearly than the spoken word ever could. Let the world see our faith rather than hear
about it.
The temptations of this dying world are
everywhere. If we don’t stay focused on
the Lord and seek His guidance and direction daily we can easily become caught
up in things we never had any intention of becoming involved in. Focus is the key. Keep your eyes on Christ and the things of
this world will fade from your sight.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
