“Every word of God is
flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his
words or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.” Proverbs 30:5-6
This
is part of what is called in verse 1 as an “inspired utterance” by Agur, son of
Jakeh. The believers quoted in scripture
all announce that God’s word is flawless.
What does flawless actually mean?
It means God’s word is said to be free of imperfection, perfect in every
way. Because man doesn’t understand everything
said in the Bible he declares that it is flawed or cannot mean what everyone
seems to think it means. Faith and trust
means we should have complete and total belief in an unseen Deity. We are to trust what the Lord has to say in
scripture. We are not to read too much
into things. We must ask the Lord for
clarity and understanding. When Agur
says “every word of God is flawless” we are meant to not question it, I say a
hearty “Amen!” I have seen God
move. I have felt His presence. What others call coincidence; I call the hand
of God. He is my reality.
In
John 6:66-68, many followers of Christ not willing to continue on due to the
nature of His teaching, began to desert Him.
Jesus then turned to the 12 disciples and asked if they would be leaving
too. Peter’s response resonates in my
soul: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” That is why I have devoted my life to
serving Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit within me. That should be the reason we all do.
The last portion speaks of adding to
God’s word. I wonder if that applies to
taking away from it. We see a lot of
that going on. People reconstructing the
gospel message so it agrees with their own sensibilities. Remove the passages that are too weighty or
hard to understand and replace them with a social gospel that paints a white
washed message of love, peace and compassion, period. No sin.
No judgment. Why did Jesus die on
the cross? I suspect some really don’t
know what to say about all that. They
don’t want to focus on death, only life and freedom and sugar coated niceties. We are called to believe in the Bible in its entirety, whether
we understand it all or not. Until
Christ’s Return, walk with the King and be a blessing!
