“For observe your calling,
brothers. Among you, not many wise men according to the flesh, not many mighty
men, and not many noble men were called. But God has chosen the foolish things
of the world to confound the wise. God has chosen the weak things of the world
to confound the things which are mighty.” 1
Corinthians 1:26-27
If good works or mighty deeds were all it took to gain
entrance into heaven, then the question arises “How good is good and who sets
the standard?” Wisdom is difficult to judge as well, for what is wise in one
man’s eyes may seem foolish to another.
Someone impartial must set the standard.
The only one in existence that is totally impartial is Almighty God,
Creator of heaven & earth for it says in Acts 10:34, “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism.” What is fair and just for one is fair and
just for all. It’s simply how the Lord
operates.
There
is nothing anyone can do to become worthy of salvation. Good and mighty works or wisdom exhibited are
meaningless in God’s economy. God purposely chooses those who are meek, weak
and humble by comparison to the supposed great people of this world. Why does He do this? Meek, humble people are less likely to take
credit for what has taken place through them, making them unlikely candidates
to become prideful and arrogant.
Those
who have no great social gifts, incredible strength or wisdom are of great use
to the Lord. These folks have a great sense of unworthiness, which comes from a
lack of confidence in themselves; however, they are a perfect field for the
Lord’s Holy Spirit to plow. As spiritual
growth takes place, boldness begins to take form. When the Lord uses someone who is deemed
unworthy by worldly and sometimes even church standards, these vehicles of
God’s grace will often times be disregarded. They must understand that
acceptance by the world is irrelevant, while acceptance by the Lord assures
eternal life. Those used by God are to
continue on in obedience to the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit
regardless of how they are received. If
a person does this, he will be great in God’s eyes. And that is all that matters. Until Christ’s Return, walk with the King and
be a blessing!
