OUR ROCK & OUR REDEEMER

“Come, let’s sing joyfully to the Lord. Let’s shout happily to the rock of our salvation. Let’s come into his presence with a song of thanksgiving. Let’s shout happily to him with psalms.” - Psalm 95:1-2 God’s Word Translation
These are the opening verses of this anonymously written Psalm, which are obviously for the exuberant worship of the Lord. There is a time to worship in silence, basking in the majesty that is God and there is a time when we should shout praises to him. He is worthy both to be boisterously praised and honored in quiet.
I’d like to hone in on the title “rock of our salvation”. A rock is seen as immovable. Foundations are typically made of stone. They don’t shift and become unsteady. If God is anything he is steady and remarkably consistent. Our moods and dispositions change constantly based on our circumstances or how others are treating us. God never changes. Ever. He is indeed the rock that saves us and never takes that salvation away. We may turn from it and walk away as I have known some to do, but God does not reject us.
It’s a peculiar thing that mortal man will go to an arena and scream himself hoarse for his favorite sports team, yet would never think of shouting praise to the Lord. I suppose they wouldn’t feel that would be dignified or reverent. God delights in our praises; make no mistake about that. I don’t think for one second that heaven will be a quiet, mausoleum-like venue. I think the air will be thick with the worship of our one true King. Until next time, walk with the Lord and be a blessing!
