“… clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not
think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” – Romans 13:14 New Living Translation
The
flesh doesn’t back down quietly. Anyone who has walked with the Lord for a time
knows that. Our walk with God tends to ebb and flow; we climb to the lofty
places our faith takes us, then fall flat on our faces when our walk seems
disinteresting and somewhat mundane. We reach up only to find ourselves on a
plateau of sorts where our faith seems to diminish and our ‘want to’ shrivels,
dehydrating in the scorching sun of the trials we face.
This is precisely why we must put on
Christ as we would a piece of prized clothing. What that means is to exemplify what
the Lord showed while he was here on earth. To clarify, we are to exhibit
unconditional love, humility, truth and a spirit of service.
It’s not easy to keep our old man down.
Like a rotting corpse in a B-rated horror film it keeps clawing its way back
into the forefront of our lives. Rebuke it in Jesus name and move on. Neither
the devil, nor your old man has any hold on you unless you give it to them. You
have been redeemed, never to be associated with your past by God again. Live
like you’re loved because you are, forever and always. Forget the flesh, for it
will disappoint you every time and the consequences are never what you hope
they will be. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
