“It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always, not just when I am with you.” – Galatians 4:18
Paul was writing the Galatian brethren to defend the gospel he had preached. Outsiders had come in and put doubts in their minds regarding not only his message, but his apostolic authority as well. Paul asked them bluntly who had “bewitched” them that they would fall prey to such teaching. In the course of his letter Paul speaks of being zealous. He points out that it is fine to be filled with zeal as long as the purpose and cause is good.
In this day and age there are many causes that people become quite zealous about. Same sex marriage, animal rights, gender or racial equality are all causes that are important to those who believe in them. Being zealous for the gospel of Jesus Christ, while frowned upon by a secular society, is a cause with eternal implications. In the eyes of God it is a most righteous and worthy cause to be zealous towards. As Christians we must choose our battles wisely and always stand tall in the defense of the gospel message we have embraced. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
