Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do
not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can
say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If
you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” (Matthew 21:21-22)
The emphasis in these verses is not the things that can be
done if you have faith, but rather the fact that we are not to doubt. Everything we
seek needs to be tied to what God’s will is for us. When Jesus says we will receive whatever we
ask for the underlying condition is that what we ask for will line up with the
Father’s will. Knowing His will for us
can be a mystery at times, but it isn’t meant to be. Knowing the will of God
lies in how much time we spend with Him finding out exactly who He is, who we
are in Him and what His plans are for us.
So don’t focus on the amazing things you can do if you have faith
attached to your prayers. Focus on never
doubting that God can do for you when you ask according to His good and perfect
will for your life.
The phrase “If you believe” can be misleading if you feel that believing in the Lord will get you things. James 2:16 (ESV) tells us “You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.” It’s not simply in the believing but in the seeking of His will that the real truth lies. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
