“Do
not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its
practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in
the image of its Creator.” (Colossians 3:9-10)
It’s
amazing to me how easily people lie.
There’s no doubt that many times it’s easier to tell a lie then the
truth. The scary thing is that Christian’s
lie with startling regularity as well. I’m
not talking about lying to a dying spouse regarding the death of their
partner. I consider that being
merciful. I’m speaking of pointless
lying as a means of deflecting a tongue lashing or some sort of
punishment. As believers we aren’t who
we once were or at least we shouldn’t be.
Some people lie out of habit, just because … .
Our conversion
was supposed to bring about a definitive change in our mindset. We should have begun to see things
differently, think about things differently and begin to act differently. What good is forgiveness if we don’t allow
lasting changes to follow? We still have
our free will. We can walk away from God
anytime we choose. If we decide to
follow the Lord, then why not allow the Holy Spirit to make us into all God
knows we can be. We have put on a new
self. Lay down your old self once and
for all time and don’t look back. If you
lie as a matter of convenience, stop doing it.
We are ambassadors of Christ. We
represent Him in our thoughts, words and actions. Let us not be a reason people turn from God, but rather are drawn to Him.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
