“Let all the earth fear the
Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to
be; he commanded, and it stood firm.” Psalm 33:8-9
What
does it mean to fear the Lord? Does it
mean to be afraid of Him? The second
portion of verse 8 (after the semi-colon) uses the word that best describes how
we should view our God. We are to look
upon God with reverence and awe. It is
not fear in a typical sense. Oh those
who ignore the warnings of God to repent and turn from their sinful ways have
much to be afraid of when it comes to the Lord.
God’s wrath regarding sin can be seen in Genesis 19 when He leveled
Sodom and Gomorrah. Those who call themselves Christians and who have truly
repented, leaving their past behind, need never
fear God.
What is so awesome about God? Can you speak something into being? God can.
He spoke and the heavens and the earth appeared out of nothingness. He scooped up the dust of the earth and
created man. He parted the Red Sea so Moses and all of Israel could escape the
clutches of Pharaoh and his army. On dry
ground no less. He caused a braying
donkey to speak (Numbers 22:28). He has used
Godly men to carry out His commands all throughout scripture. He spoke and it was done.
We must, as believers, never treat God as an
afterthought. He created us in our mother’s
womb and loves us with an unconditional love.
His patience is never ending and His mercy exceeds His patience. Someday time will be no more and heaven will
be our reward. Until that time, we are
to live our lives as if Christ were with us every moment of every day. We are to live as if He were a part of each
conversation we have. We are to live as
if He were to go wherever we happen to go.
Does that thought embarrass you?
Perhaps you aren’t living as you should.
God’s grace exists to provide for us undeserved favor. Tap into His grace and mercy and begin to
live a life that is worth living. Share
your faith with others. Don’t preach at
them, but rather, show them His love by living it. God is worthy of our allegiance, for only He
can save the sin-ravaged soul. Until
next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
