“Love is patient, love is
kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not
dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no
record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It
always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never
fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
In our final devotional on love prior to Valentine’s Day, I
would like to focus on the following words: truth, trust, hope and
persevere. As Christians, we have chosen
to believe that God represents the one complete and flawless truth that
exists. Whatever God has said in His
word is true. While some would argue
that the Bible was written by mortal men who were flawed and had their own
thoughts, prejudices and preconceived notions about things, Christians have
chosen to believe that they were not simply mortal men, but mortal men inspired
by the Spirit of God to write that which God wanted said.
We trust God because down through the ages to this very day
He has never given His followers a reason not
to trust Him. God alone is our hope for
eternity. The Lord promises that those
who have given their lives over to Him entirely will have a place in heaven
with Him for all time.
Because God is truth, we must live out His truth in our own
lives. Lies, though easily told and often denied, produce nothing
positive. Lies are deception, therefore
we must tell the truth. In addition to
trusting God, we must trust others as well.
Trust until given a reason to distrust, but always love
unconditionally. As a side note, once
trust between spouses is broken, it is extremely difficult to regain. Be careful to never break a loved ones trust
in you.
Our hope is found in God and in our future destination. We must persevere in our calling as children
of God until the very end. We must never
become weary of doing good. We shouldn’t
do good as a means of receiving a reward, we should do good because Jesus was
good and did good and we are supposed to reflect His attributes. We should practice loving others by
exhibiting the character traits we have discussed these last few days. Your
life will be blessed as you bless others.
Until next time, walk with the King and be blessing!
