“For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
What
is love? According to the American
Heritage Dictionary it involves emotions like affection, concern, devotion,
kindness, adoration and endearment. The
Bible tells us that God is love (1
John 4:8). This means He is the
embodiment of what love is. Every word
and action performed by the Lord is done out of a motivation of love and not
just love, but unconditional love. Do you understand what that means? He places no conditions on His affection for
us. He loves us just exactly the way we
are, character flaws, pre-conceived notions and all. Some might say, “I never asked God to love
me.” This comes from a heart that
resists what they feel will be restrictions to their life. The fact is that accepting God’s love and
letting it change your life can be the most liberating action you ever take
this side of heaven. It’s a choice every
man, woman and child must make at some point in their life.
God didn’t just tell us He loved us unconditionally, He
showed us. He gave His Son, Jesus Christ
up as a living sacrifice to take the punishment meant for us all. None of us are sinless. We are all in need of forgiveness by
God. His love gift to us all came in the
form of a death. That is love, scripture
says, that someone would dare to die for his friends (John 15:13-14). Jesus calls us His friends if we do as He
commands. You see, it’s not just
believing in Jesus or in God. A change
must occur in your heart and as a result in your life. True love obeys God out
of loving compliance, knowing He always has our very best interests at heart.
God is love. We love Him because He first loved us (1 John
4:10, 19). Let God’s love permeate your
soul and then let it flow from you into the world. Don’t just tell the world God loves them; show
them by the way you live your life. Until
next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
