However,
as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no
human mind has conceived”1— the things God has prepared for those
who love him — these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. 1 Corinthians
2:9
The words we see here are usually used
to speak of future glories in heaven; however, Bible commentaries far and wide
reveal that this verse is not speaking exclusively of the future, but also the
present. Clarke’s Commentary states that
these words speak of “the wondrous light,
life and liberty which the Gospel communicates to them that believe in the Lord
Jesus Christ in that way which the Gospel itself requires.” 2
There is no doubt that
the Lord, in His grace and mercy, has revealed to all who would desire to know,
the blessings they might enjoy this side of heaven. Paul quotes the prophet
Isaiah to establish the forever nature of this promise. It was true in the Old
Testament, it was true during Paul’s lifetime and it remains true today. Our
finite minds could never fathom the depth and the magnitude of all that God not
only has for us in the here and now, but is awaiting us on the other side.
God is real and through His Holy Spirit reveals that which
we need to know to successfully operate on His behalf. We need to sharpen our
spiritual senses so as to be conscience of the wisdom that is ours for the
asking. We miss so much when we become
mired in the muck of this world. We need
place our focus firmly on the Lord and leave it there so that we may know the
things God is revealing.
Our days on this earth need not be such a grind if we do as
Christ had instructed us to do. Cast all
your cares upon the Lord, for He cares for you. (Psalm 55:2; 1 Peter 5:7) See heaven in your mind’s eye and rejoice
that we are destined to go there when this race has been fully run. There too no mortal eye has ever seen, nor
ear heard, nor has it entered in the man’s heart all that God has awaiting him
or her on the other side. It is the
inheritance of all true believers. Until
next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
