4. SOVEREIGNTY
The Explanation ... God being sovereign means he is, and always will be, the “supreme authority with unrestricted power”. [1] He oversees and cares for all of his creation. God is always fair and truthful in his dealings with people. Because God is in absolute and undisputed control over all things, he can save whomever he so chooses.
The Importance ... Due to God’s incredible mercy both Jews and Gentiles (all non-Jews) can be saved. However, we aren’t saved by osmosis. We must all reach out for his mercy and accept his gracious offer of forgiveness. Gracious ... a verbal variation of ‘grace’, is God’s unmerited favor. In other words, we do not deserve anything that God is offering us. God has CHOSEN to grant us forgiveness and a 2nd chance out of his love for his creation and his merciful kindness.
5. SERVICE
The Explanation ... Our purpose is to give credit to God for all his love, power, and perfection in all we do. That way we can serve him properly. Serving God tends to unify believers, thus enabling them to demonstrate love and sensitivity to others.
The Importance ... There is no question, we cannot be fully Christlike by ourselves. It is a collaborative effort among all Christians. We need to spend our time encouraging and edifying fellow Christians so we can all rise up in a marvelous symphony of service for our Lord.
Christianity is a lot of things to a lot of people, but one thing it is not is a license to live as we please, knowing forgiveness is available. That, my friends, is trampling on God’s grace. We ought to love and serve God because of what he has done for us, but the main reason to love and serve him is because of WHO HE IS. He is worthy of our worship. He is worthy of our undying, unadulterated praise and love because of who he is. As you read thru Romans, pay attention to all that has been revealed to us by Paul regarding our beliefs and subsequent actions.
Up next we take a look at ‘what faith is’. Until then, walk with the King and be a blessing.
In His Name & for His Glory,
Richard Keller
