The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. - Psalm 19:1
According to Charles H. Spurgeon this Davidic psalm was written to be sung by assembled worshippers in the sanctuary. David was proficient in his understanding of the greatness of God due to his time spent in the fields as a boy tending his father’s flocks. He saw the immensity and grandeur of God poured forth before him as paint on an artist’s canvas. That, combined with his knowledge of Holy Scripture enabled him to tap into God’s glory in a unique way. With this as a backdrop he boldly proclaims that the heavens and the skies above tell of the wonders that God has created. Though unspoken in this psalm, the entirety of creation speaks of His artistry. Think of the most beautiful places you have ever seen on this earth and know that the hand of Almighty God formed them. If God can make a world that is so incredible, think of what He can and will do for you if you ask Him to. Become intimate with God so that His will becomes your desire.
