“I stand silently before the Lord,
waiting for him to rescue me. For salvation comes from him alone. Yes, he alone is my Rock, my
rescuer, defense and fortress. Why then should I be tense with fear when
troubles come?” Psalm
62:1-2
If you’ve never gone up to West Point, NY
to visit the US Military Academy, it is a trip worth taking. Majestic stone buildings rise up all over
campus and stand as a testament to the strength and longevity of the Academy
itself. These neogothic buildings are
made of gneiss, which is an erosion resistant, metamorphic rock that has stood
the test of time. Many have been
standing since the Academy was established in 1802. God is like the gneiss rocks that these
incredible buildings are comprised of. He is our defender and our mighty
fortress. He is our rescuer. No one this side of heaven could ever compete
with the Lord’s glory and majesty.
David speaks of standing in silence before
God. How many times do we rattle off our
problems, wants and desires to the Lord then leave without listening. It is in the quiet times that we receive
instruction and guidance. It is when we
stand or sit silently before our Lord that we experience peace and as a result,
hope.
There isn’t one single reason in this
world for us to be tense with fear whenever troubles come to us. Ask the Lord what lessons you are to learn
and proceed, for “For God hath not given
us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2
Timothy 1:7) When Satan comes near you
and tries to drag you down into a pit of despair or a snare that causes you
apprehension and fear, tell him to leave you alone in Jesus’ name and continue
on trusting God. Walk with the King and
be a blessing!
