“The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.” – Proverbs 20:5
Scripture tells us that God knows the hearts of men*; however, man can only know such things with discernment given by the Holy Spirit. Discernment is attainable, but requires diligence in seeking it. Only the person who is close to God and humble of heart can know the motivations that some people may have. Our problem is that we judge too quickly based on externals. We ought not to do that. It’s critical that we allow God to be the judge over His own creation rather than for the creature passing judgment on his fellow man.
Insight is not come by easily. It takes time and a pure heart to attain both insight and humility. Humility is a modest or low view of one’s importance. It’s a characteristic that’s attractive for the Christian to have, yet false humility must be avoided. It’s in the seeking of God and His wisdom that we begin to take on the godly characteristics we need to live the modest life that is pleasing to our Lord.
