“So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.’” (Luke 2:15)
Was it curiosity or compulsion that caused the shepherds to go see the baby the angel told them about? I submit to you that it was a compulsion. When people are introduced to Christ they are compelled, drawn to Him by the Holy Spirit of God. They can resist this compulsion or can surrender to it.
Even as an infant Jesus was a compelling figure. Both shepherds and Magi were drawn to Him, perhaps showing that there were no class distinctions for all were welcome. Messiah was expected, though not in this form. He was to bring peace, but not the kind that ebbs and flows with the whims of men. It would be a lasting peace, one that was both internal and eternal.
Do you have peace in your heart this Christmas season? Look upon the Christ child who sacrificed His own life to save you from yourself and know peace. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
