“If any of you lacks wisdom,
you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it
will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because
the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” James 1:5-6
There are several components to these verses that I would
like to touch on. First of all, who
doesn’t need wisdom? There are those who
seem to think they need no ones help in solving life’s problems, but I am not
one of them. I seek the wisdom of God
all the time. Why do I do that? Because
I understand who He is and who I am in relation to Him. Children seek advice from their fathers all
the time.
The second point is that God gives to His children
generously. He isn’t miserly with His
gifts, but rather gives them in abundance.
The third point is that He doesn’t find fault with the person
asking. God doesn’t make you prove
yourself to Him or go through verbal gymnastics to receive a gift from
Him. God gives freely as evidenced by the
forgiveness that He offers to all mankind.
There is a stipulation tied to your request. You must
believe, in faith, that you will receive that which you ask for. Believing in the unseen is difficult at
times, but God has proven His trustworthiness through the ages and will not
ever let us down. The hitch comes when
we have to wait. Just because we feel we
need something RIGHT NOW, doesn’t mean we do.
God knows all things. That is the
nature of omniscience. The Lord not only
has knowledge, but also foreknowledge.
He knows exactly what you need and exactly when you need it. Trust is required on our part to experience
all God has for us in this lifetime. Failure and impossible are two words that do not exist in God’s economy. Nothing is impossible to the creator of all
things.
“Ask and it will be
given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks
receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
