“Do not lay up for
yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves
break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For
where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 (NKJV)
What’s most important to you? If it’s material possessions then you are
setting yourself up for a major disappointment.
Every material possession will decay, yellow, break, rust or simply fall
apart. The things of this world are
temporal. As a matter of fact, items
purchased nowadays are designed to wear out sooner rather than later so you
have to buy a new one. The days of
appliances lasting 20 or more years is long gone with few exceptions. The things of God, which are spiritual in
nature and for the most part not tangible, last for all time.
Eternity is a somewhat vague concept. We have trouble wrapping our minds around it
because our mental capacity is limited. Eternity
is defined simply as time with no beginning or end. God is an eternal being. He
has no beginning or end. He just is.
It should be noted that mortal man is not asked to understand the
notion of an eternal God, just to make the choice to accept it as true. God either is or He isn’t.
We can attest with our own eyes that material things do not last forever. The issue of God being real is something that
has to be accepted by faith, for no one alive today has ever seen God or His
Son, Jesus Christ. We see the evidence
of a divine creator all around us, but we have not seen the creator
Himself. That may seem like a tall order
for some folks, but like most things in life, it involves an individual’s
choice. You can place your faith in
things. No one will ever stop you from
doing that. But what is most important
to you in this life is what your heart shall be set on. Even our spouses are to take a back seat to
God relative to importance. No thing or
person other than Almighty God can remove our sin and cleanse us white as snow,
thus giving us a second chance to get things right.
Do as you will, but understand this; one day your soul will
be required of you and if you haven’t had it washed clean by the blood of
Christ you will rue the day you didn’t take a personal relationship with God
seriously. Until next time, walk with
the King and be a blessing!
