CALLING OUT TO GOD

“You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.”  Psalm 86:5
Psalm 86 is one of the five psalms referred to as Tephillahs or prayers.  It consists of both praise and prayer, which are directed toward Almighty Jehovah. It speaks of God’s goodness and willingness to deliver from the depths.  The Lord is “good at giving and forgiving; supplying us with his good and removing our evil.”1 He supplies us with joy and peace.  He alone provides for us hope for all our tomorrows.
It’s necessary that the all who call on God recognize their circumstances without Him.   David clearly states that he is “poor & needy” (v. 1) and in need of God’s mercy.  Since Christ’s resurrection, we have entered into a dispensation or period of God’s grace; which is His undeserved favor toward those who place their trust in Him.  Placing your trust in the Creator of the Universe will reap enormous benefits.  Forgiveness is applied to your sin debt.  Guidance from the Holy Spirit is yours for the asking.  A heavenly home awaits those who remain faithful.  God offers more than the world could ever hope to offer, for all created things decay and are gone at some point in time.  Man’s greatest efforts to extend their existence fail miserably.  Even if we could live forever, without God what would it matter?  We would continue on in our own mundane existence until time was no more.  Our resources would remain limited and be no match for God.  His resources are limitless and eternal and we can draw from them any time we need to.
It would seen that the phrase “all who call to you” would open the door to all humanity and it does in a manner of speaking.  However, those who see the need for God to intervene in their lives can tend to be meager compared to the world’s entire population.  Those who are inclined to call on God should do so with a long-term commitment in mind.  It’s not all right to cry out when in need, then return to a godless life when things stabilize.  I mean, you can do that, sure.  God will not stop you.  But this isn’t a game and the stakes are high.  Our soul weighs in the balance.  Know your circumstances and also know that you can call out to the Lord at any time for His assistance.  He knows of your plight already.  He’s just waiting for the call.  Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
