When God our Savior revealed his
kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had
done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth
and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon
us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he made us right in
his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.
This is
a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all
who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good
and beneficial for everyone.” - Titus 3:3-8 New Living
Translation
This portion of
scripture is a real eye opener for those who may not realize exactly what
salvation truly is. It is nothing we have done or even have the ability to do.
It’s unmerited or undeserved favor. It’s like receiving something free just
because you were standing in line, but in reality it’s so much more than that.
It’s an eternal, spiritual, powerful, matchless event that nothing on this
earth can be compared to.
Man has
difficulty admitting that he is wrong. Just like an alcoholic must admit to his
drinking problem, so we must admit that we are sinners separated from God by
our sin. We must admit that we are in need of someone to cleanse us of those
sins. It is not an easy thing to do, especially if everything is going your way
and life is good. In that case why on earth would we need God? Tomorrow we will
take a little deeper look into God’s favor, better known as God’s grace. Until
next time, walk with the King and be a blessing! rlkeller
