STARTING WITH PRAISE

Psalm 138:1-3 New Living Translation
“I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart. I will sing your praises before the gods. I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness, for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength.”
This is a Davidic Psalm. King David wrote this to give thanks to his Lord for answered prayer. We should do as David has done; praise God for who he is. There is no need to come into his presence with a crisis on your lips from the very start. Your crisis is simply another opportunity for the Lord to show you he already knows and will take care of the situation. He doesn’t need our input on how to fix things. God has that covered. So we should start by praising him for who he is.
David says that as soon as he prays God answers. How come we don’t always see immediate answers? I believe the wheels in heaven begin to turn as soon as we pray. Knowing that God can be trusted to know our plight and is capable of rectifying any situation should be a major encouragement to us all. As long as we understand that the rectification comes in the form God chooses and that he knows the best time is for it to take place. We never call the shots. We must trust the Lord to do the heavy lifting for us. We must understand that ONE WORD for the Lord can change EVERYTHING, just as it did with creation.
There will be ample time to share our concerns, which God is already aware of, so showing him the awe and reverence that is due him is a more than appropriate way to start our prayers. David’s words reveal to us, somewhat as a blueprint reveals future plans, that God works out HIS plans for our lives and has every intention of carrying us thru any difficulties we may face. Until next time, walk with the one true King and be a blessing.
