Ephesians 6:12 New Living Translation
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
There is a spiritual realm that exists. Hollywood depicts it in a certain way, but believe me when I tell you, it is nothing to trifle with. When Paul says our fight isn’t with those who have flesh & blood, he’s referring to demons. They are the angels who fell from heaven(1) along with Lucifer. (Scriptures listed in footnotes) This isn’t some video game we’re talking about; we’re talking about a powerful army of darkness that is the enemy of every Christian on the face of this earth. Those who sit on the fence regarding their beliefs or don’t believe in God at all have nothing to be concerned about. They are already under his control.
We are in need of supernatural power to defeat the devil & his minions. That kind of supernatural power is at our disposal by virtue of being a child of the King of all creation. If he created Lucifer, he can take his reign down. There’s no need to be discouraged or afraid. Satan can do nothing to you unless you let him. He is a toothless lion whose roar is much worse than his bite. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus says to Peter: “Upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.”
If we determine to live a life dedicated to Christ, we will need to fight this battle against the dark forces of this world until Christ returns. Feed your spirit regularly so that you have what it takes to withstand Satan’s attacks. He wants you to believe you are nothing. He wants you to wear around your neck a medallion with all your sins etched on them. He wants you to own them so you will be totally ineffective for the Lord, but you know what, Christ bore those sins on the cross and shed his blood to remove them, so don’t you dare let the devil lie to you. God’s grace says you are no longer defined by your past mistakes. You are free now and forevermore. That is the good news of the gospel! Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
