Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. - Ephesians 4:29
We find unwholesome talk coming at us from everywhere nowadays. Even television isn’t exempt as they have loosened their restrictions to the point where once taboo verbiage now is heard quite regularly as if it were now acceptable. Profanity will always exist. Gossip and deceit will live on through the ages to come. Does this make it alright? No, it does not. As Christians we must fight the urge to lower our standards. If we do not speak unwholesome talk we are not better than those who do, just obedient. God knows that wholesome, encouraging, edifying speech mends wounds and brings overall healing to the soul. Unwholesome talk provides no positive results … ever. We are not restricted from using unwholesome talk, but rather are cautioned in scripture that though we can do as we choose not all things are beneficial to us. God knows us intimately and therefore knows what is best for us. Straining at the leash to do as we please can bring disastrous results. Until next time…walk with the King and be a blessing!
