“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will
save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by
his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” - Zephaniah 3:17
The
prophet Zephaniah delivered a message of judgment from the Lord to the people
of Judah. The warning was meant to shake them out of their complacency. Once
the judgment was past gladness would come. Gladness comes to us when we allow
God to be in our midst. It comes to us when we faithfully follow him and obey
his statutes. You see the Lord knows what will make us the most content and
fill our hearts with joy. Man chases after those things that appear to him to
bring lasting joy, but the joy generated from such things dissipates quickly
like steam from evaporating water.
True,
lasting happiness, contentment and joy comes from obeying God. Nothing else
lasts. Nothing. True, lasting peace comes from knowing you are forgiven from
all your sins. The devil may attempt to rob your joy, but he is a toothless
lion who cannot harm you. We have a hedge of protection around us that enables
us to function in the name of Christ without fear of disruption by the enemy.
As long as our focus is on the Lord and not on our circumstances, we will find
those things that we need most in life. Until next time, walk with the King and
be a blessing!
