GOD IS GOOD TO US

Psalm 13:5-6 (NIV) “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the LORD’s praise, for he has been good to me.”

Have you ever been so distressed at your circumstances that you cry out to the Lord? I have. So has David. It is interesting to me that in the first 4 verses of Psalm 13 he cries out to the Lord “How long? How long will my enemies overtake me?”

The word ‘but’ is an interesting word. The dictionary shows all sorts of meanings for this word. It all depends on how you use it. In this particular case I believe its’ meaning could be: contrary to expectation.

So David really could be saying: “In spite of my complaining and crying out to the Lord for relief from my enemies, I will trust in the unfailing love of God.” Solomon was the same way in Ecclesiastes. He tried anything and everything he could find to see what all the fuss was about and in the end always came back to the same conclusion: vanity … all is vanity. Serving the Lord is all that matters. So you see, no matter what occurs during your day, in the end, our unchanging God is still there, waiting for our acknowledgement.

Will we trust Him? Will we rejoice in the salvation He has so graciously provided for us at no charge? Will we praise Him, acknowledging His goodness to us? We should. We need to. Have you ever thought of where you would be without His hand upon you? I have and it is a gruesome thought. God can survive without us, but can the reverse be said? Uh, no. Our lives would be chaotic at best and out of control. Right would seem wrong and wrong, right. We would live for ourselves and our own selfish gains. Is that what you want? Well, is it?

David saw the wisdom in serving God and trusting Him. Asking God questions, even complaining or crying out to Him over apparent injustices that we feel have been done to us, is alright, as long as you realize who you are speaking to. Don’t you yet realize that it only takes ONE SINGLE WORD FROM GOD to alter your entire situation? Meditate on that. Realize who you are serving here. He isn’t some two bit King who was born on this earth and to this earth shall return when he dies. We are speaking of the Creator of everything that exists. Not only is He worthy of our love and praise, He is worthy to be trusted. Think back on your life … has God ever failed you? Well has He? Of course He hasn’t. The only reason some people think He has failed them is because things didn’t turn out the way they would have liked. If we are truly honest with ourselves we will admit that is true.

So it is settled then. God’s love is eternal and unfailing. We must trust Him because of His consistent nature; He never, ever changes. Sing praise to our God for who He is and what He has done for you, because you know He has done a whole lot. Take it from a man after God’s own heart – King David.

WALK WITH THE KING TODAY AND BE A BLESSING!
