GOD IS WATCHING

Proverbs 15:3 (NIV) “The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.”

What would you do if you knew no one was watching you? Would you do the right thing or try to get away with something you knew was wrong. An interesting point was made to me yesterday by a brother in Christ. It was interesting to him that when we are in the midst of trials we cry out “Lord, you see me and know what I am going through. Lift this burden from me.” However, when we are doing something that is less than alright, the thought that He is watching us never … I mean NEVER crosses our minds. Why is that?

I’m not sure I have the answer to that one, but I know that if and when I do something that I know I probably shouldn’t do, it is rarely spontaneous. It is carefully planned out. And God is watching. I make a call or go to a website or watch something on TV or read a magazine that perhaps isn’t in my best interest as a believer and all the while God is watching.

You’ve heard the adage “wherever you go you take Jesus with you”. Well, it’s true in the form of the Holy Spirit who is inside you. He is there wherever you go and whatever you happen to be doing. Are you willingly “dissing” God by doing what you want “come hell or high water”. I have been like that. At times, I still think I know better than God and insist on doing things MY way. How foolish. Yet God continues to watch … always watching.

We should praise Him that He DOES watch us at all times. For He is the only one Who can save us from destruction. He is the only one Who can save us from our worst enemy … ourselves. We just never seem to learn.
Just when we think we’ve reached a plateau in our relationship with the Lord, we take a step backward and fall off, down to the last level we just came from. And all the while God is watching.

We CAN take solace in the fact that He has His eye on the wicked as well. They only prosper for a season. Now God determines the length of that season, but the fact remains that God, Who is in ultimate control of ALL things, calls the shots and not the wicked. To say otherwise would mean that Satan had more power than God and that is a false statement. Satan is a fallen angel. Satan can do nothing to us lest God allows it. Read the opening chapter of Job for verification of that.

It is a sad thing that so many believers are actually afraid of the fact that God is watching them. I wish I could say I was not one of them, but there are times when I am embarrassed or ashamed of my words or worse yet, my actions. God loves me. Oh His love is unconditional, but how effective could I ever be if I continued down some of the paths I had embarked on … and all for temporal things with no eternal value. Does this describe you as well?

You are not alone. Unfortunately, there are many of us. But God forgives. He watches us and forgives. We must seek forgiveness. It isn’t some blanket pardon that comes no matter what we say or do. But once we ask for it with a sincere and contrite heart, He says to us “I already forgave you before you even asked”. The asking is the key. And change must follow. Otherwise we make His grace a cheap thing. And we never want to do that. Christ paid too high a price for that.
