“Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent and discerning if they hold their tongues.” (Proverbs 17:28)
Mark Twain once said: “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.” A foolish person who has the good sense to be quiet at the appropriate time has the potential for wisdom. The chatterbox who doesn’t know when to be quiet proves him or herself to be a fool time after time. There are many times in this life when saying nothing is far better than saying anything at all. I’ve had to learn that the hard way a time or two. How about you?
Wisdom, discernment and self-control all come from the Lord and can be ours for the asking. Such Godly attributes shall never be denied us if we seek them. Knowing when to keep our mouths closed is difficult for some. God can help with that. Speaking up when it is needed can also be difficult. God can help with that as well.
Don’t be thought a fool by running your mouth. Seek, then exhibit discernment and hold your tongue.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
