“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-5)
These two verses mark the beginning of the commandments God instructed Moses to tell the people of Israel prior to entering into the Promised Land of Canaan. Moses was not to enter in, but was allowed to see it from the top of Mount Nebo.
In these two verses we find the crux of our faith. It reminds us that our God isn’t one of many gods, but rather the one true God over all living things. The love we are to have for our God is the same love He has for us. It is a selfish, sacrificial love. We are to make Him the focal point of our lives. We are to love Him with every ounce of our being. If we do that, it will become natural for us to live according to His precepts and laws. We will want to please Him with our thoughts, words and actions. His standards are not burdensome, but bring life. To not have such a desire is to overlook the importance of the gift that grace is; His undeserved favor towards us. Let go of your own desires and tap into all that God has for you. It’s a matter of faith and trust.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
