“God
is our refuge and strength,
an
ever-present help in trouble. Therefore
we will not fear, though the earth give way
and
the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though
its waters roar and foam
and the mountains
quake with their surging.” Psalm
46:1-3
This Psalm is attributed to the Sons of Korah, who were
assigned by King David to be in charge of choral and orchestral music. Eleven Psalms are attributed to them. With this portion of scripture I would like
to hone in on the phrase “ever-present
help”.
Man needs no help getting into trouble; it’s getting out of
trouble where assistance is much needed. Almighty God is ever watching. He is aware of all our comings and goings at
all times. Those in tune with His Holy
Spirit can avoid many of the pitfalls that present themselves; however, there
are many times that we simply are not paying attention. Doing things our own way without consulting
our all-knowing God is a flaw that often times leads us astray.
The believer has nothing to fear. God is ever-present. It means exactly what it sounds like it
should mean, He exists in the here and now and is always present. Though it’s difficult to wrap our minds
around it, God always has existed. Even
prior to the dawning of man. I cannot
claim to understand that concept, but I accept it in faith, believing that He
is real, that His word is true and that He truly will be my ever-present help
whenever I need assistance in one form or another. The Lord wishes to lead us into all
righteousness, but it is a voluntary allegiance that He seeks. We are required to do nothing; however, the
consequences of doing nothing are far worse then doing what we know in our
heart of hearts to be true.
There is nothing this side of heaven that God does not
control. The entirety of creation is at
His disposal. God given intellect and abilities enabled the things invented by
man. Any technological advances were as well.
Man can boast of his achievements, but whether he believes it or not, without
the hand of God enabling them they would have failed. Everything in existence points back to a
single creator. If you’re looking for
logical sense, forget it. Even the
gospel message itself makes no sense to the unbelieving mind. Simply understand this: We have nothing to fear, ever, for God will
always be there for us and there is no record of His ever failing. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
