“…
no word from God will ever fail.” Luke 1:37
These are the last words the angel Gabriel said to
Mary. She was told a remarkable and
miraculous event was to take place within her womb. Mary was confused. She was a virgin who had never slept with a
man. How would this conception take
place? The Holy Spirit would see to this miraculous event as overseen by God
Himself. The main thought I want to
highlight are Gabriel’s final words.
It’s a very powerful statement that true believers can rely on.
Those who question God’s existence or perhaps believe in Him
yet call into question the validity of scripture may struggle with Gabriel’s
declaration. It’s an absolute statement
that speaks of God’s character. It tells
us that not only can He be relied upon, but also that His word can be as well
for neither God nor His word will ever disappoint or betray us. God’s word is eternal in that it endures
forever. Before time began God was and where there is God there is His
word. We cannot truly know God without
knowing His word. All that is necessary
for us to live a morally upright and holy life can be found in scripture.
It’s not a requirement to live for God, but rather a privilege
that is born out of a spiritual conversion.
Our redemption is designed to draw us through a vigorous compulsion to
serve and obey our Lord. Those who don’t
take their conversion seriously are missing the point of Christianity
altogether. Becoming ‘born again’ is to
make a 180-degree turn from your old
way of life and start down a new path that the Holy Spirit charts for you. This is what 2 Corinthians 5:17 means when it
says that we are “a new creation; the old
has passed away, behold, all has become new.” It’s not the outward change
that is evident to those around you, but the inward change that slowly begins
to show itself. That is what people need
to see from us. Not that we are holier than thou, because we are far
from it. Not that we are perfect,
because we certainly aren’t. People need
to see in us the mercy, patience, grace and love of God for this will bring
with it a sense of hope.
God’s word never returns void. It always accomplishes its purpose according
to Isaiah 55:11 (see below). Scripture
shines a light on sin and reveals the truth about any given situation. God’s word provides our rules for living. Nothing He has said, is saying or will ever
say shall ever fail, but rather shall come to pass. On that we can totally and wholly rely. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
