“As
the deer pants for streams of water,
so
my soul pants for you, my God.” Psalm
42:1
Water is one of the essentials for sustaining both plant and
animal life. Picture, if you will, a
deer thirsting for a drink of cool, clear water. It seeks a stream for refreshment and finds
it. This is how we are to be regarding
the Lord. He has saved us from
damnation. We should feel compelled to seek
Him daily for it is through God and God alone that true life is found.
The word of God nourishes our soul as water does our
physical bodies. We are to partake of it
frequently so our soul never becomes malnourished. Think of your body in a state of dehydration. This is essentially what takes place
spiritually speaking when we neglect our relationship with God. Feasting on scripture, whether in large
portions or bite size pieces, is important for the spiritual growth of any
believer. Believing we can make it in
this life without the assistance of the Lord is misguided thinking. Man is prone to making poor decisions. History shows that when left to his own
devices, man will choose incorrectly more times than not. This is why we need to tap into the soul
quenching sustenance of the Bible.
A believer must make time for communion with God each
day. It’s not a requirement, but rather
a necessity to avoid drying up spiritually.
God knows what we need and one of those needs is daily fellowship with
Him. We get busy with our lives all too
frequently and miss many opportunities for such fellowship. This fellowship fosters peace and harmony in
our souls. Folks find it particularly
difficult to find the time for such communion with the Lord, especially around
the holidays, when chaos seems to rule our days and the quiet is drowned out by
the din of the masses as they shop till they drop seeking that last special
holiday gift. Have we lost the
significance of Christmas? Is it really
what the world is making it out to be; gifts and good cheer alone? Pant after God and everything else will
become clear. Stay focused on the Lord
and you will find out first hand why this time of year is so special. Without Christ we are nothing. Until next
time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
