“But when the set time had
fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem
those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.” Galatians 4:4-5
This portion of scripture tells us a lot. First it talks about time; a set time. A time that had fully come. God knows the beginning from the end. He existed before time began. He knows what man has done through the ages
and knew before the beginning of time that He would need to rescue them from
themselves. When God knew the time was
right He sent His Son; His only
Son. His Son who was part of the
Trinity. His Son who was in effect
Himself. God came down in the form of
His Son. He allowed Himself to be born
of a virgin that He created in her mother’s womb years before, on the earth He
created. He was born under the law which
He established knowing full well what was required for complete and total
redemption. Redemption under the law that
He gave. God did this so that we could
be adopted into sonship.
What a powerful statement!
Almighty God, creator of the heavens and the earth, lowered Himself to
save His own creation. In spite of this,
much of His creation ignores the invitation to have their past behavior
expunged. Like any type of addict, one
must first admit their problem and their need for help. Yes, I am in fact saying man is addicted to
sin. Mankind is living their individual
lives without at clue as to their soul’s condition. It’s like having terminal cancer and not
knowing it. Those outside God’s hedge of
protection are living on borrowed time.
Their end is inevitable, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Jesus came to free the captive from his
chains. But the captive must realize he
is in chains in the first place.
For the believer, the above scripture is good news. We, who have accepted Christ as both our
Savior and our Lord, are adopted sons of the most High and Holy God. We are saved from the punishment that comes
from our past sins. Jesus doesn’t
condemn us for our actions, He forgives us, paying our sin debt Himself. How can anyone who knows this not be joyful
every day, let alone the day we celebrate Christ’s birth? We are a redeemed people. Free from the burden of our own sin. Rejoice.
Be glad. An immense weight has
been lifted off our shoulders. Be
grateful and live like being forgiven matters to you. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
