“Truly my
soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.” Psalm 62:1
soul
1. (Theology) the spirit or
immaterial part of man, the seat of human personality, intellect, will, and
emotions, regarded as an entity that survives the body after death.
2. (Theology) Christianity the
spiritual part of a person, capable of redemption from the power of sin through
divine grace.
For King David to say this is
somewhat remarkable considering the troubles he encountered in his life. Some were of his own making through poor
decisions and some were events that needed to take place according to God’s
will for him.
To find rest for your soul is
to find rest for your inner being. A
soul not at rest is troubled and unsettled deep within the core of a man. A troubled soul effects our personality, our
ability to think clearly and keeps our emotions scrambled.
God gives rest and peace to
the weary soul. It isn’t given out
indiscriminately to all men. It must be
sought just as forgiveness for sin must be sought. Oh the unnecessary suffering people put
themselves through when they don’t seek out God. The Lord alone is the provider and sustainer of
all things. He freely offers that which
will benefit us most. Man’s autonomous
nature keeps him from submission. God’s
will for us is not a binding, restrictive thing. It is intended to lead us and our soul into everlasting
contentment and peace; rest for those who are weary. Salvation comes from One and only One. It is Almighty God who is our salvation. It can be found in no one else. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
