“Though you
have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you
believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you
are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:8-9
The
believers Peter is writing to in Asia Minor don’t understand the nature of the
trials they are going through. The
Apostle is trying to explain the reason for trials and as a result, reinforce
their faith. He reminds his readers of
their love for God even though they cannot see Him. Having faith in anything or anyone you cannot
see with your own eyes is difficult at best.
That’s essentially the definition of faith – believing in things that
are unseen as if they can be seen. The
joy that Peter speaks of exists inside us because of whom it is that we believe
in.
This is no ordinary deity; it
is Almighty God, the creator of heaven and earth and man’s first breath. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and
the end. He has always existed and will
never pass away. The reason for our love
towards God is because of what He did for us.
God loved us before we ever knew Him (1 John 4:19). He paid the sin debt we had accrued
throughout our life just for the asking.
That should be the cause for our rejoicing.
Too many times we allow
ourselves to get mired in the sink hole of our troubles, which can lead to
depression and as a result, a loss of hope.
With God there is always the hope of a better tomorrow because He is already
there. Until next time, walk with the
King and be a blessing!
