“May these words of my
mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock
and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14
It amazes me how freely
both men and women use profanity these days.
In light of that we find this verse for King David’s Psalm 19. It speaks of the glory of God. David wishes
his words and meditations to be pleasing to the Lord.
I’ve
been known to let a foul word come forth when frustrated or angry, but even
that is unacceptable to the Lord and I know it.
With God’s help through His Holy Spirit I have learned to control my
tongue far better then when I first started my spiritual journey over 35 years
ago. Nowadays people’s language has
risen to a new level as if profanity were a badge of honor of
sorts. Frankly, it shows a sign of
extreme ignorance. If that is the best
thing any of us can think of to say they it would be far better to just keep
their mouths shut. There is never a reason to spew filth from our mouths as if
we’d eaten garbage. Fill our minds with
godly things and it will begin to stop.
Think
of all God has done for us to set us free from the bondage of sin. Before we ever knew Him He loved us and died
for us to cleanse us of all our sins.
Think of it as being filthy and stinking from head to toe. Now think of stepping into a hot shower that
washes all the filth and stink off you.
In a way that’s exactly what the Lord did for us. However, not realizing their sinful state
people continue on getting dirtier and dirtier.
Considering
all that has been done for us to purchase our freedom, the least we can do is
guard our mouths. Speak positively. Be a balm of Gilead1 rather
than a fire ants bite. Honor God with
your language; don’t ever disgrace Him.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
1 A balm is an aromatic,
medicinal substance derived from plants. Gilead was an area east of the Jordan
River, well known for its spices and ointments. The "balm of Gilead"
was, therefore, a high-quality ointment with healing properties. [http://gotquestions.org]
