“Do not
conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his
good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
Paul
is instructing the Roman believers to allow the Holy Spirit of God to renew
their minds. The world is all around
us. We live in it. It’s very easy to fall into the trap of
focusing on that which is around us rather than the Lord. God’s economy doesn’t operate like the worlds
at all. While patience is required in
both, without the Spirit’s assistance our ability to wait decreases
rapidly. It is then that we are prone to
making poor decisions.
The
world has a multitude of distractions to lure our attention off the things of
God. Not all things are evil or
inappropriate and not all things should be shunned. As we walk close to the Lord we will begin to
see through spiritual eyes that which is beneficial and that which is of no
value to us. God truly does know what He’s
doing, but our penchant for being even the least bit autonomous tends to make
things more complicated then they need to be.
We will know His good and perfect will for us by spending time with
Him. It’s then and only then that we
will see the things of the world as they need to be seen, through God’s
eyes. We have something they desperately
needs, but if we are mired in the muck of this world our message will be
lost. Focus on the Savior of your soul
and be a beacon of light to all those around you. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
