“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth
by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17
This is the beginning of a prayer by the prophet
Jeremiah. It tells us two important
things about our relationship with God.
First of all, when we pray, we shouldn’t just blurt out our request as
if God was required to respond. Spend time in praise of Him. Tell Him how much you appreciate all that He’s
done for you. Briefly list those of His
accomplishments that come to mind. Now I realize there are times when we feel
desperate and the only thing we can think about is our own issue at hand. But we should at the very least attempt to
make it a common practice to lift His name up.
It’s good for our spiritual well being.
God knows who He is; however, when we tell Him we are in effect
reminding ourselves just whom we are speaking to.
Secondly, when Jeremiah proclaims, “nothing is too hard” for God, he is acknowledging a characteristic
of the Lord that is vital for us to understand.
He understood it and that is why he said it in his prayer. Jeremiah is telling God he knows this about
His character. He knows that nothing is
beyond the realm of possibility with the Lord.
The word impossible doesn’t
exist in God’s economy. In fact I believe
when folks say something is impossible that’s when God ramps up the action in
the spiritual realm. It should also be
noted that just because something we’ re praying for doesn’t take place it
doesn’t mean God couldn’t do it. All it
means is that God had a different plan. This is where our faith and trust come
in. If we have truly placed all our
faith and trust in Almighty God, then we must know in our heart that He will
always do for us that which is most beneficial.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
