The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and
let him go. “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow
servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke
him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded. “His fellow servant fell to his
knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back. “But he
refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could
pay the debt. Matthew 18:27-30
This is a parable Jesus taught which illustrates the mercy
we are to show those who owe us some sort of debt. This illustration speaks of a monetary debt;
however, our debt is one of a spiritual nature.
We have a sin debt that needed to be washed away. It reminds me of an old song we used to sing
in church many years ago. It’s called He Paid a Debt. The chorus goes like
this: He paid a debt he did not owe. I owed a debt I could not pay. I needed
someone to wash my sins away. And now I sing a brand new song - Amazing Grace. Christ Jesus paid a debt that I
could never pay.
In the light of those wonderful words we stand, a new
creature. Forgiven for every sin we had
ever committed. Yet we don’t show the
same mercy and grace to those we encounter on a daily basis. We shoot our own wounded and verbally rough
up those who are either newer to the faith or not of the faith at all. If we truly want to emulate Christ with our
life we must study His words and actions so that we can be Jesus to others. Until
next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
