“The Lord is
a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who
know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those
who seek you.” - Psalm
9:9
Elsewhere God is referred to as our
strong fortress and our strong tower. When I think of a fortress I think of
medieval castles with 8-foot thick stonewalls; an impenetrable stronghold to
protect those inside. Such is our God. Those in need of help can call on the
name of the Lord and he will come and not abandon those in need. The one
stipulation is that those who know the name of the Lord will put their trust in
him and him alone. God shouldn’t be our last resort, but rather our first
option.
Although God will never abandon
those who seek him, his promise is not intended to mean that if we trust him we
will never experience loss or suffering. What it truly means is that in spite
of our circumstances, no matter how dire, he will never leave us alone. He
meant that and placed his Holy Spirit in the hearts of those who live for him
as a way of proving his ubiquitous* nature. He
doesn’t take any breaks or go on vacation, he is watching over us at all times.
So if you seek him with all your heart you will find him and he will never let
you go it alone again. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!

* “Being or
seeming to be everywhere at the same time; omnipresent.” (American Heritage® Dictionary of
the English Language) – With Almighty God there is no “seeming” to be
everywhere. Due to his nature and who he is, he is literally everywhere at the
same instant by his spirit. rlkeller
