"Treat others the same way you want them to treat
you.”- Luke 6:31 New
American Standard Bible
Jesus is speaking to his disciples
in chapter 6 of Luke’s gospel. He is specifically speaking about loving your
enemies and those who persecute you. But if the truth be told shouldn’t the
above instruction be utilized across the board to all peoples, not just our
enemies. If we were just supposed to
behave in such a manner to those who persecute us alone the Lord would have
been more specific, wouldn’t he? It would have said, “Treat your enemies the
same way you want them to treat you”, wouldn’t it?
This verse is can be quite an
indictment against many of us because we say what we feel rather than what
would uplift and encourage, thus blowing an opportunity to be a blessing to
someone. Christian Author & Pastor Rick Warren’s proclamation that “It’s
not about YOU!” should reverberate through the souls of every believer in the
land. We need to shed our old nature and put on the righteousness of Christ. We
need to be deadly serious in our quest to imitate Christ in all aspects of our
life. It’s what God desires for us for he knows it is what is best for us.
Focus on Christ and let everything else of lesser importance become blurry to
us. Then we will begin to see with new clarity God’s ultimate plan for our
life. Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
