“Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.” (Amos 5:14)
Amos, a common shepherd in Tekoa of Judah, was called by God to prophesy against Israel. In spite of their disobedience to God, the Jews were confident they still had God’s favor. Amos was sent to proclaim that they were about to receive God’s judgment for their severe oppression of the poor and abuse of the legal system.
In this day and age many say God is with them, yet show no evidence of it in the way they live. As believers in Christ we are to strive to seek that which is good and not evil. They only way to know that which is pleasing to the Lord is to draw close to Him and stay there on a daily basis. This is possible through the reading of scripture and applying His principles to our lives. Desiring to be more like Christ should be our one and only true goal as a Christian. Our own desires must come second. It is consistent living according to God’s precepts combined with the true genuineness of our faith that will get people’s attention and draw others to God.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
