“Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, ‘Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.’” (Mark 9:35)
Jesus’ disciples were arguing about who among them was the greatest. Because God knows the motives of our hearts, He knew what they had been arguing about without them saying a word and His response is shown above. When I read it I think of other verses, such as: “(God) must become greater, I must become less.” (John 3:30) and “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31) We are not being asked, but rather being told to make ourselves less important than God and all others through humility and grace.
This world devotes its time and energy pumping up the importance of its inhabitants in an effort to glorify them; yet no one is to receive glory but Almighty God, for it is He and He alone who can save the sin sick soul.
The world laughs at the notion that someone whose existence cannot be scientifically proven to exist could have any impact on the lives of men. They side step faith in favor of presumed facts, though in reality they are nothing more than theories. Trust in God and His word. Live your life placing others above yourself and you will find the fulfillment unregenerate souls only wish for.
