THREE REQUIREMENTS

“He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)
Micah was a prophet who lived in Moresheth, a small town between Judah and Philistia, roughly 20 miles southwest of Jerusalem. Because he lived outside the city, Micah, whose name means “Who is like Jehovah”, was able to objectively prophesy regarding the destruction of both Judah and Jerusalem in the mid-700’s BC. He could clearly see all the corruption and grieved over the recklessness with which the people lived.
It has been said that David reduced the 613 requirements of the Mosaic Law to 11 and Micah, in turn, reduced them to just 3. They are listed in verse 8: to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God. Some manuscripts use the word prudently, instead of humbly. To be prudent is “to act with care and thought for the future”.
This is what we can take from the above passage of scripture for today. As we move forward with the Lord we should take heed of the prophets words and do to others that which is just and merciful in the sight of God. We should also live being mindful of the future, for our actions will dictate the consequences. Live for God in peace.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
