“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” (Ephesians 5:1-2)
The church in Asia Minor had come face to face with cultic religions and new doctrines that contradicted that which had been preached to them by Paul. Though this letter is labeled Ephesians, it is supposed that it was more of a cyclical letter, being passed around to all the churches in that area. No specific destination is listed in the beginning and no personal greetings seen at the end, which is Paul’s common practice, leads scholars to come to this conclusion.
Paul deals with no particular issue; instead he points out that Christ is the only one who would willingly die for the sins of man. As a result of His death every blessing from God was readily available to those who place their faith and trust in Him.
In this day and age we are buffeted about by various belief systems that proclaim an easier way to get to heaven. Be careful, for scripture declares that there is only one way men can achieve a heavenly destination and that is through Jesus (Acts 4:12). He loved us and gave Himself freely to pay our sin debt. No other ‘religion’ offers that. This is why our allegiance to God must be steadfast and true. Live for God relentlessly.
Until next time, walk with the King and be a blessing!
