“The Lord is
my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads
me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right
paths for his name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:1-3)
Scripture speaks of a shepherd
who is given charge over a flock of sheep.
A flock is a grouping of an indeterminate number that is under a leaders
care. The flock is taken care of by
their shepherd so that no harm comes to them.
They are led to the greenest pastures, the coolest pools of water and
led along the clearest paths. The
shepherd is the flocks protector, provider and sustainer, just as Jesus Christ
is to us; thus the comparison of Jesus to that of a Shepherd. He is all we will ever need this side of
heaven and will never, ever fail or forsake any of us. Believing that as fact comes by faith and
trust.
I believe it’s no mistake that
we are compared to sheep. Not the
brightest of animals that will follow pretty much whoever is leading them and
will go wherever led. While that’s not
precisely true of all people, it can sadly be true of far too many. This is why we must cling to the shepherd,
for as scripture tells us; the sheep know the shepherd’s voice. He will take excellent care of us if we
listen to His commands and follow Him wherever He leads us. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
