“Know therefore that the Lord your God is
God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand
generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” (Deuteronomy 7:9)
While God’s love is for all in His creation, His faithfulness
is specifically for those who keep covenant with Him. When we receive Christ, we not only accept
His forgiveness, but the washing away of all our sins. We also enter into a covenant with God. It’s a pact or binding agreement that should
not be taken lightly. It’s not like
today’s marriage agreements that more times than not end in a parting of
ways. It’s an agreement where God stands
by His word to us and we are supposed to do likewise. Too often we don’t take our relationship with
God seriously, fancying it as a one-time deal where we are cleansed then go
about our business as if nothing has happened.
In order to grow closer to our Lord we must spend time with Him. This isn’t anything new, for I speak of this
often. We cannot hope to know God or His
precepts if we don’t delve into His word on our own and seek His face with
regularity. God will never, ever leave
us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). It
is we who forsake God. Let us reassess
our walk with Him and draw close to Him so that we may fulfill our part of the covenant. Until next time, walk with the King and be a
blessing!
